Sustainable Palm Oil
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo works diligently to advance the promotion of sustainable palm oil in many ways, including seasonal shopping guides and a Palm Oil Scan app.
Around 85% of the world’s palm oil is produced in Malaysia and Indonesia, which also happens to be the last remaining habitat for endangered species like orangutans, tigers, and elephants.
Gorillas on the Line
This AZA SAFE initiative aims to raise awareness about threats to gorillas and empower conservation action through electronic device recycling. All proceeds from devices donated to Eco-Cell are distributed to gorilla conservation.
As of April of 2025, our organizations have collected and contributed 2,468 devices!
SeaFood Watch
Monterey Bay Aquarium is a leading source of science-based information for sustainable seafood around the world. Use their seafood guides while shopping or dining to help choose environmentally sustainable options.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has completed a My Fish Choice Assessment for the seafood options offered by Animal Nutrition.
W.I.L.D. Zero-Waste Challenge
Held every year in July, the Columbus Zoo's W.I.L.D. Zero-Waste Challenge focuses on waste-free living and incorporating zero-waste initiatives into daily life. This month-long challenge is free to participate in and open to the public.
Whether you're new to waste-free living or a seasoned pro, participants can learn from over 120 actions to curate a challenge that is just right for you.
